Xerox delivers print technology services with eco label certified devices for COP26

Green Solutions Print Solutions

The United Nations selected Xerox to provide devices certified to meet internationally recognised security and product sustainability standards and onsite support to the COP26 conference, taking place in Glasgow.

Xerox is supporting the UN's essential print and copying services across the full conference campus, supporting all function events and country delegations from around the world. The company is also supplying a team of onsite engineering support staff, from Glasgow and the surrounding areas.

Most of the devices used at the conference have been remanufactured near Glasgow at Concept, a Xerox Business Solutions company, in Clydebank, which was recently awarded the BSI kitemark BS 8887-220:2010. The devices have earned Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT), Blue Angel and Energy Star ecolabels and have been validated by The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change for their security and functionality.

To realise the ambition of providing print technology with sustainability benefits to the conference, Xerox is using proactive alerts for devices to enable optimum uptime through the event. Devices are configured to reduce power consumption through energy saving settings including defaulting to double sided printing and reduced toner consumption in draft print mode to deliver the lowest carbon footprint.

‘Xerox has a proven legacy in supporting similar scale events throughout the UK, including the London Olympics in 2012 and most recently the European Championships in Glasgow in 2018, so we are delighted to be an official partner for COP26. Our appointment is a testament to our commitment to fighting climate change, whilst helping to make a positive difference on one of the world’s most pressing issues,’ stated Darren Cassidy, managing director, Xerox UK and Ireland.

To further the sustainability credentials of all printing onsite, the company will provide FSC certified paper having 100% post consumer recycled content. All used paper and spent toner cartridges will be recycled through an Eco-Box and Xerox’s Green World Alliance Programme, and printed pages will additionally be offset by the PrintReleaf Reforestation Programme – which sees Xerox plant a tree in a managed forest for every 8333 pages of print.

After the event, Xerox will also be working with Glasgow City Council and Procurement Scotland to agree to processes for the donation of devices used, with a proportion already allocated to local charities and schools.
