Print Solutions
The University Print Shop (the print department at the University of Bedfordshire) has invested in Konica Minolta’s AccurioPress C3080 digital colour production press. It now enjoys significant benefits including excellent print quality, cost efficiency with quality but also agility, which helped it respond to challenging market conditions during 2020.
Serving more than 20,000 University of Bedfordshire students across two campuses in Luton and Bedford, The University Print Shop also meets the print needs of local communities, such as leaflets/flyers, business cards, copying and binding, banners, signage, labels, and photobooks/canvas prints. As a commercial business it requires a highly competitive and cost efficient professional printing solution and following a robust testing procedure the AccurioPress C3080 was selected.
The Konica Minolta C3080 colour digital production press provides printing, copying, and scanning functions, all rolled into one multifunctional device. Offering high productivity (up to 80 pages per minute) and automatic duplexing, it provides a host of converting options to suit the business perfectly. The Print Shop’s C3080 includes a high capacity paper feeder, stapling unit, punch kit and a conveyance unit with 21 step mechanical media decurling unit for maximum versatility.
David Plummer, the head of Print and Document Services at the University, stated: ‘The Konica Minolta AccurioPress C3080 won on the excellent quality of the print, but what really pushed it over the finishing line was the new IQ-501 Intelligent Quality Optimizer for automated inline adjustments.’
During the testing process, every aspect from continuous tone to graduated tints to fine line text and reversed out text, were assessed. Photo print quality was a particular focus, along with razor sharp registration and high productivity as well as reliability over long runs.
The AccurioPress C3080 has been invaluable in helping The Print Shop to continue operating during the Covid-19 pandemic. The solution supports a new click and collect service which avoids handling of paper and memory sticks, as customers send files via e-mail or submit them online. The quick turnaround of digital print technology means that some customers send their order while waiting in a socially distanced queue outside.
Konica Minolta has provided The Print Shop with the flexible and reliable solution it needs for the future, as David added, [The AccurioPress C3080 has definitely accelerated growth for us. When people come in, they are quite precise about what they want, and we know this machine can deliver, we know that we’re not going to get the job kicked back.’
He continued, ‘We previously lost a client who went to a commercial printer and had the job printed offset, but they returned to test the new Konica Minolta solution with uncoated and recycled stock and, I am pleased to say, we won them back because the results were just perfect – the IQ-501 unit holds it all together. It is simply brilliant and it is the icing on the cake.’
