Label Solutions
The Label Makers has recently worked with independent and sustainable gin maker, York Gin, in creating distinctive label designs for the distiller’s new look range of six gins – London Dry, Roman Fruit, Outlaw Navy Strength, Grey Lady, Old Tom and Chocolate & Orange. The labels were produced for both 70 cl bottles and 5 cl miniatures.
Being part of a design overhaul at York Gin, with an emphasis on sustainability and being plastic free, the labels were printed on a sustainable paper made using 50% grass fibres. In addition to having a distinctive natural variation in colour and fleck upturn giving a rustic craft appearance and warmth to touch, the labels also help benefit the environment through its lower carbon footprint and reduced water consumption during manufacture.
Complementing the bespoke glass bottle, the label design strongly echoes the castellated York City walls; this detail being picked out using a tactile high build varnish, with its gloss finish contrasting with the matt label appearance giving the label added shelf appeal. An intricately embossed border adds further detail and reinforces the careful attention to detail in producing this premium crafted gin. Touches of gold and orange foil add flashes of reflectance and are mirrored in the tamper seals which also feature the studded emboss.
The image of the black cat sat on top of the city walls – a reference dating back to medieval times when statues of cats were meant to ward off the plague – is screen printed with fine hot foil blocking and is synonymous with York’s ancient past.
Commenting on the labels, York Gin’s Emma Godivala, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted with the labels – thrilled! They complement the bottles perfectly, look top notch and are fantastic quality.
‘We are trying to use local companies as much as possible. It mis all part of our attempt to minimise our impact on the environment and give our custom to local Yorkshire businesses, so The Label Makers is a good fit for our business. The company listens carefully and works very well under time pressure. When we develop new flavours and products, we will be straight on the phone again.’
The Label Makers’ Kevin Lyons added, ‘We were delighted to work with York Gin in creating the new labels. Our highly skilled team is used to finding solutions to complex briefs and will go the extra mile to make sure the product is brilliant. The look and feel of the end result is stunning.’
