Roland DG has revealed that it has seen a significant uptick in red and orange ink sales this year following its ‘50 Shades of Red’ campaign – and ahead of Pantone crowning the new 2024 colour of the year ‘Peach Fuzz’.
Roland DG EMEA orange and red ink sales have seen year to date growth of 18% versus last year, with a significant increase of sales hitting its peak in June 2023, after its 50 Shades of Red campaign launched at the end of May 2023.
In a move to showcase its TrueVis colour technology, the company launched a redhead revolution earlier this year on World Redhead Day (26 May 2023) with its ‘50 Shades of Red’ campaign – launching a lookbook of shades that finally helped redheads find a way to describe their perfect match.
Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2024 has just been announced as ‘Peach Fuzz’ – a soft, pastel shade that closely mirrors Roland’s own ‘Fox’ colour shade from the 50 Shades Lookbook. The 2023 Colour of the Year was also drawn from the red end of the colour spectrum with the selection of Viva Magenta, a bright crimson shade.
Lauren Swinnerton, head of marketing communications and brand EMEA at Roland DG, commented that 2023 was the year of red and orange. She said, ‘Following the brilliant response to our 50 Shades of Red campaign, we have seen red and orange ink sales increase as printers look to meet the demand for the colour from customers. We are glad to see Pantone agree with us with its choice for 2024 Colour of the Year. Although, you heard it here first!’
