Denmaur managing director and co-founder, Nick Gee, has announced he will retire from the business at the end of April 2024, coinciding with the company’s financial year end.
Mike, Denise and Nick Gee founded Denmaur in 1983 and Mike and Nick have been at the helm ever since, taking the company from its beginnings as a humble publishing paper supplier to becoming one of the leading players as a national paper and board merchant.
Nick Gee said, ‘This is Denmaur’s 40th year in the business, an incredible landmark for me personally since I only intended for it to be a summer job back then. However, the time has simply flown by; I am extremely proud when I look back at what we have achieved as a business – the people that we have employed in our company, as well as the extraordinary number of loyal and wonderful customers who have helped to make Denmaur the company it is today.’
Today, Denmaur employs 140 people across all its divisions that include a stockist paper and board merchant, a publishing and corporate division in Media, and Reel Fast, its customer and trade conversion service based in the West Midlands.
Together with his brother, Mike, Harry E Gould Jr (chairman) and Robert Gould (board director), Nick has been part of the succession planning process that has resulted in the following managerial changes taking effect as of 1 November. Mike Gee will become vice chairman while Nick adopts the role of CEO until his retirement. Andy Buxton will now become group managing director and Doug Jessop has been promoted to managing director of Denmaur’s Media division.
Nick said, ‘We have a tremendous team of professionals within Denmaur who possess both the drive and desire to take the company into the next phase of its evolution.
‘For me, retirement is an opportunity to realise some lifelong ambitions, many of which revolve around travelling, enjoying even longer skiing holidays and relearning how to sail.
‘I would like to thank my fellow board members, alongside all of our valued customers and suppliers and, of course, our great team of employees (past and present) who have helped to make the last 40 years an absolute pleasure.’
