PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) is one of the most damaging plastics available; from its production right through to disposal it harms both health and the environment. PVC contains chlorine and emits dioxins, a toxic carcinogen.
The production of PVC releases these into the environment where they build up in the animals that live there, and subsequently make their way up the food chain.
Similar issues arise when you want to get rid of PVC. It is a very difficult material to recycle, often resulting in it going to landfill. Incineration is dangerous as it releases more of these toxins into the air.
In contrast, Polypropylene contains only carbon and hydrogen, is safer to manufacture, 100% recyclable and burns to relatively harmless end products.
