Borehamwood based digital print company Kellmatt Limited has upgraded its Morgana DigiFold Pro to the latest DigiFold Pro XL.
Matt Weir, director, said: ‘It was a straightforward decision for us to upgrade to the latest version. We have been a Morgana user for 20 years plus, and most of our post press equipment comes from the company, so there was no need to look elsewhere. Morgana equipment is solidly built and has served us very well over that time.
‘The cross-perforation capability was the major attraction. We had been sending that kind of work out, so this machine will put control back in our hands, save production time, and save us money.
‘The ability of the machine to handle long sheets came a close second as far as features. We run a Xerox iGen and an Iridesse, so the fact that we can handle 660 mm long sheets is important, or up to 1200 mm for special products. It is another feature for us to sell and for our in-house design team to promote.’
The business was formed some 30 years ago, and includes large format production as well as the Xerox digital presses, some monochrome printers for variable data printing, and a graphic design studio. Kellmatt started life in the print world by producing self-adhesive labels, then morphed into a reprographics company, producing Cromalin proofs for high end graphics customers, and then became an early adopter of digital print.
With regard to working through the pandemic, Matt added, ‘When it happened we suddenly realised just how many of our customers were in the hospitality sector, and how much work that sector generated. We turned our hand fairly swiftly to the production and supply of PPE product.
‘We also do a lot of work in the charity sector and, as things started to settle down, it became apparent that the services they supply still needed funding so they were having to ramp up their communications, including print requirements, to make sure people realised that they were still there, and that they still needed the support of the general public.
‘One charity, for example, focus on sick children in hospital. Its normal avenues of entertaining the children were closed off because of safe distancing, so decided that colouring books would be a safe yet engaging alternative.
‘Thankfully we have a very loyal customer base and we are beginning to see orders gradually increase back towards where they were.’
The Morgana DigiFold Pro XL is built with an open design, and a suction feeder that handles stock sizes from 210 to 1300 mm in length. This heavy duty automatic creasing and folding system is designed to complement mid to high volume digital and offset production presses. This top of the range model folds up to 6000 A4 per hour, or in ‘crease only’ mode 7500 per hour. It has a maximum loading capacity 200 mm, and a stock range of 80 to 400 g/m2. The top fed vacuum feeder, ensures stable production for long runs. Full cross perforation is also available, along with the ability to add up to five in line perforation/scoring wheels. The machine is able to create up to 30 creases per sheet.
The Morgana DigiFold Pro XL is designed to also complement the long sheet capabilities enabled in the today’s production printers. It features a standard pull out extension that enables sheet sizes up to 1300 mm to be handled with ease.
