Cordovan Capital acquires Ireland’s only paper sack producer

Packaging Solutions

Cordovan Capital, together with packaging industry specialist John Fitzgerald, has announced the acquisition of the Mayr Melnhof paper sack business based in Bangor, Northern Ireland. With a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, the Bangor business has for over 50 years been a cornerstone of the green economy, providing eco friendly multi-wall paper sack solutions to agricultural, milk powder, animal feed and milling markets throughout Ireland and the UK.

The company, which will soon embark on an exciting rebranding exercise, is the only producer of paper sacks located on the island of Ireland thus offering customers superior service, lead times and technical support. This strategic investment marks a significant milestone in the sustainable packaging sector, positioning the business for unprecedented growth and innovation. The acquisition by Cordovan Capital, alongside John Fitzgerald, offers the Bangor business a combination of investor and operational expertise upon which to draw.

‘We are thrilled to partner with John Fitzgerald, as well as all the team at Bangor under the leadership of Declan McGrady, true pioneers in the paper sack industry,’ said Stephen McClelland, partner at Cordovan Capital. ‘This acquisition aligns perfectly with our mission to invest in businesses that drive positive environmental impact. Together, we will accelerate innovation, expand market reach, and strengthen the company’s position as a leader in sustainable packaging.’

John Fitzgerald, who will join the board of the Bangor business as executive chairman, said: ‘As the only paper sack producer in Ireland, the Bangor business plays a critical role in the supply of eco friendly paper sacks to valued clients thus reducing the reliance on difficult to recycle single use plastics. I have personally been involved in this business for over 25 years and can attest to the quality of the product produced by a committed and dedicated workforce.’
