Apogee Corporation is sponsoring the Royal Marines Veterans’ Speed March, taking place in London on Sunday 21 July 2024.
The event will see a group of 12 retired Royal Marines – all over the age of 45 – take on a marathon speed march around the streets of London, in order to help raise awareness of the mental health challenges faced by many of the veteran community.
‘The event is about more than veterans running around the streets of London in July 2024,’ explained Barry (Baz) Gray, event organiser and retired Royal Marines’ regimental sergeant major. ‘It is about what we can do between now and then to promote, share, and raise awareness of veterans’ mental health issues.’
The speed march is a significant event in the calendar for The Royal Marines Charity: raising much needed funds for the charity to carry out its important work, as well as raising awareness of the mental health challenges faced by service veterans and their families.
‘Apogee has been inspirational and integral in helping us achieve our goals,’ continued Barry. ‘Mental health issues are not restricted to those who serve or served in the military – it affects many thousands of people from all ages and walks of life. Together, with the right attitudes and understanding, we will change lives and support those most in need, when they need it.’
‘We are proud to sponsor the Royal Marines Veterans’ Speed March in July this year,’ added Carl Day, chief sales officer at Apogee. ‘Aligned so closely to our own values to help drive more awareness on the topic of mental health, and our ongoing support of the veterans’ community, this was the perfect event for us to get involved with. The speed march is a fantastic way to raise funds for The Royal Marines Charity and the critical work they do for veterans. Good luck to everyone involved.’
The charity provides support and advice to serving and retired Marines alike, as well as their families. Many veterans will be marching alongside the team of 12, to help raise additional awareness for the charity on the day. This team of supporting marchers will also include four of Apogee’s own employees.
This sponsorship is part of Apogee’s commitment to supporting veterans, including its sponsorship of the Royal British Legion Industries ‘Rudolph Fun Run’ in December 2023, and its status as a bronze award holder on the Armed Forces Covenant Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
The sponsorship also reflects Apogee’s drive to raise awareness of mental health for its employees and the wider community, including Mental Health First Aiders, Mental Health Training, and observing mental health awareness days.
