Pulse Roll Label Products has been involved in recent UV flexo print production trials held at leading Dutch label manufacturer, Telrol BV, in a partnership project led by UK based graphic and reprographics specialist, Print Quest Graphics Ltd, using its Utopia pre-press technology.
Self-adhesive labels were printed, using Pulse Roll Label Products’ PureTone Food Packaging Compliant (FPC) four colour process inks, at full machine speed on an MPS printing press with low operator interaction. The project brought together printing and label industry experts to demonstrate how different substrates can be made ready without any on-press changes. The resulting labels show the gamut and colour cleanliness achievable using the PureTone FPC ink system in combination with the associated ALT Ani-Plus UV anilox, Kodak NX plates with Print Quest Utopia technology.
UV flexo prints were produced using PureTone FPC inks on five different substrates: gloss PP, machine coat, thermal top coat, vellum and PP clear, using PureTone FPC High Opacity White. All jobs were made ready in under five minutes with no on-press changes.
Utopia is a comprehensive strategy combing Print Quest expertise, advanced technologies and colour match systems which allows the delivery of standardised colour, achievable across multiple substrates and print processes. This generates significant cost savings in time, ink and raw materials, whilst delivering an outstanding printed result.
Will Parker, chief executive officer, Telrol BV, said: ‘Following our smooth transition to PureTone FPC inks earlier this year, this project is yet another success for Telrol and our partners. We recently invested in new anilox from ALT with the objective of determining the colour at the pre-press stage. In collaboration with Print Quest, we discovered that ALT anilox allowed excellent transfer of the PureTone FPC inks using a standard volume anilox. Print Quest determined the optimum colour volume in HD flexo for MC, PP, Thermo-top, Vellum and PP-clear. The print result is simply outstanding.’
David Jarvis, managing director, Print Quest Graphics, said: ‘Six letters make the difference: Utopia – unique technologies, optimising plate, ink and anilox. Using our Utopia pre-press solution, we can enhance flexo print and are delighted with the excellent results achieved using Pulse Roll Label Products’ PureTone FPC inks.’
