IPS Printed prepares for business growth with Horizon buy

Print Solutions

Guernsey general commercial printer IPS Printed has chosen an Intelligent Finishing Systems supplied Horizon BQ280 single clamp perfect binder along with a Horizon HT-30 three blade trimmer to support new business goals.

The digital commercial, promotional and print on demand specialist also produces greetings cards and postcards, on two HP Indigo presses. It offers large format printing too.

Rob Plampton, joint managing director, explains the investment: ‘We had an old binder that we bought five years ago when we first started offering the service. Demand has increased and we wanted a system that could help us develop a more streamlined workflow. We wanted something that would take us to the next level and the BQ280 along with the HT-30 trimmer does just that.

‘We looked at what was on the market and talked to other print service providers to see what their experiences were. We also went to Hamburg and saw the Horizon system in action. We were impressed with the whole set up. We liked its robustness and the fact it scores inline which makes for faster production. It is also quick to start up and shut down which save lots of time.’

As for the impact the system is making Rob said, ‘Being able to produce different sized books with variable run lengths quickly and easily enables us to be more responsive. We are also looking at launching some new business ventures in the autumn. The perfect binder gives us the confidence to do that knowing we can easily handle the anticipated workload. Our staff are very confident and happy to run it. We think it should pay for itself in a year.’

The BQ-280 PUR single clamp perfect binder delivers variable book production at up to 500 cycles per hour. It is specially designed to handle the unique requirements of digital print – with digital print friendly processing. It features in line verification for document integrity, a large colour intuitive icon based touchscreen for easy operation and has an extended spine length of 385 mm.
