Route 1 Print has opened its 2019 £6 million investment by securing a new Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106. This will be the company’s second press of its type and it will increase Route 1’s litho capacities by around 35% to an impressive 68,000 sheets per hour.
The company will be installing the new press in the summer at its production facility based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. This is all in preparation for the annual peak period in September/October, and to continue moving with the company’s rapid growth, which was up 30% from last year.
Once installed, the high spec B1 LE-UV press with Cutstar will become the company’s fouth fully operational Heidelberg, alongside a similarly configured XL 106, an SX 102, also an eight colour, and a 10-colour XL 75.
Mark Young, the head of Route 1 Print, said: ‘The current XL 106 has been instrumental in what we are trying to achieve here, which is offering low cost, high quality and fast turnaround print to our customers. So, we are really excited to be having the second press installed.’
The press will mostly be used for flyers and longer run booklet work but also allows flexibility for a variety of different products from business stationery to folded work.
Mark continued, ‘We always hit our peak period in September/October, so every year we ensure that we are well prepared for when the time comes. The new press allows us to increase our capacity even further so we can continue to provide our customers with the high level of service that they are used to from us.’
In addition to this, Route 1 Print is also preparing to install the UK’s first Landa press later on this year.
