Superior set to take delivery of new Versafire EP

Print Solutions

Superior Creative is taking delivery of a new digital press from Heidelberg. A Versafire EP will supersede one of its two Linoprint presses to give it a faster, more industrial press with a higher output capability.

It is three years since the company installed a Speedmaster XL 106 LE-UV and Richard Blueitt, operations director, describes it as an ‘outstanding investment’ reducing make ready times and waste and lowering the breakpoint in runs between litho and digital. He sees a strong future for both litho and digital within Superior Creative.

‘The new Versafire EP is considerably faster (135 A4 pages per minute) than the Linoprint it replaces, is capable of more clicks and able to print on thicker stock, right up to 470 g/m2,’ he said. ‘It will handle a wide range of work including point of sale, voucher books with personalised data and social stationery. Quality is assured with an image resolution of up to 4800 x 2400 dpi. The run lengths will vary widely, depending on the product and job specifications.

Current staff will man the new press which will run on a 12 hour daily shift. Little training is anticipated because the minders are familiar with the technology already.

‘Our customers will benefit from this investment. It will enable us to respond even better to tight turnaround times, to be competitive on pricing and to handle a wider range of products because of the increased stock range capability,’ said Richard.

The company offers litho, digital and wide format printing operations plus extensive finishing including cut, fold, die cut, glue, laminate and more. It grew out of a studio, so design, artwork and cardboard engineering is fundamental to the business.
