Green-On adds a Versafire EV as digital demand surges

Print Solutions

In just six months, Green-On in Tunbridge Wells has seen a significant swing towards digital printing. The mid 2018 split of 80-20% litho to digital ratio has become 65-35%.

It is this surge that encouraged the company to supplement an existing Linoprint C751 with the latest generation Versafire EV and with that to enjoy the added benefit of the banner feeder which will allow it to offer new more versatile formats.

‘As a point of interest we took an Epson proof we had run out for a litho job and output it on the Versafire on a standard setting. The colour match on the tones and solids really impressed us. It was a near perfect match!’ said David Harvey, joint managing director along with Gary Unwin. The two bought out Gerry Clipp last year.

Having a second digital press gives Green-On peace of mind because it is a company that does not let its customers down and that means meeting pressurised deadlines time and again. At this stage it does not see a demand for the fifth colour but having the option available is helpful.

The company has a host of Heidelbergs from Cylinders and a Platen to the Speedmasters (B2 and B3) and the toner based digital presses.

‘I don’t ever see us running without litho. Digital works in tandem and gives us, and our customers, options in terms of price and quantity,’ said David. ‘We have some digital finishing including foiling that enables us to give a service we can’t on the litho side without putting work out to the trade. These technologies do really complement one another.’
