Fife Print & Sign Centre, Burntisland, has invested in its first PUR binding system – a DigiBook 150 – purchased from Morgana Systems.
Commenting on the reasons for the purchase, Natalie Magee, managing director of Fife Print & Sign Centre, said: ‘Orders involving perfect binding have been increasing year on year. We now have a sufficient volume of work to justify the investment for our own machine, thus saving on the cost of out work whilst gaining control.
‘We have a long and trusted relationship with Morgana, and we knew that it produced a range of PUR binders. We didn’t need to look elsewhere. The DigiBook 150 was within our budget and provides the productivity that we need.
‘The entry level version of the DigiBook is just fine for the quantities we need to produce right now, but if that increases significantly in the future we will look to trade this model back for a faster machine.’
PUR is the strongest, most flexible binding adhesive available and offers several additional advantages over other binding adhesives. When inks, coatings or digital print toners are present in the spine area these can compromise the strength of typical hot melt perfect binding. PUR is resistant to this and will form a super strong bond with all weights and finishes of paper stocks. In addition PUR works well with synthetic and recycled content stock.
The DigiBook 150 is an entry level PUR perfect binding machine and is ideally suited to traditional and digital printers who require short runs of PUR perfect bound books to a professional standard. The DigiBook 150 is equipped with a patented closed gluing system where the spine and side gluing is applied by a slot applicator for the utmost binding quality and accuracy, and is capable of binding up to 150 books per hour.
Ray Hillhouse, vice president off line business at Morgana, said: ‘Our friends at Fife Print & Sign Centre have been users of Morgana equipment for some time, and it is a delight to see them continually expanding their product offering. Our comprehensive DigiBook range of PUR equipment has a machine to suit almost any perfect binding requirement.’
