Southampton based Inprint Litho, also known as Better Printing, has become the first company in the UK to install a Komfi Amiga 52 thermal laminator with Over Toner Foiling (OTF) unit, which is supplied by Friedheim International.
The Komfi Amiga 52 OTF joins an MBO K76, which was installed in 2006, along with other finishing equipment.
Inprint Litho is well equipped with two five colour Sakurai B2 presses, Konica Minolta and Xerox digital presses, along with Agfa, Canon and Roland wide/large format printers. Better Printing also has a direct mail section with Pitney Bowes and Bell & Howell envelope inserters.
Purchased to bring laminating work in-house, the Komfi Amiga 52 is an industrial B2 laminator capable of laminating and foiling sheets between 115 and 600 g/m2. The OTF module allows the laminator to apply film to printed toner on the sheet from the digital printer – a benefit which was extensively tested before purchasing. With the OTF module the company can apply special effects from a wide range of foils that are readily available on the market.
Damien Sweeney, Inprint Litho’s managing director, said: ‘We have started seeing a lot more of this type for work in recent months which meant having to outsource more laminating and foiling work so the purchase of the Komfi was to bring all of that outsourcing work in-house. Due to the nature of the Komfi we only need to send out much larger volumes of lamination work. It has reduced our outsourcing by 50%. Better Printing is one of our most prominent online shops and the Komfi has made the entire process faster and in turn allows to do more on time deliveries.’
Inprint is looking to expand into its fourth unit at the industrial estate in Southampton. Damien added, ‘We do a lot of regular campaign work for our customers and we collate all the digital, litho and large format for these and then pack them for distribution. With the Komfi, it adds laminating and foiling to our portfolio of services in an easy to use, simple unit with a very small footprint.’
Tom Baker, post press sales specialist, Friedheim International, commented: ‘The Komfi is a reliable, robust and user friendly machine which is proving itself to be best in class.
‘We have received a lot of interest in Komfi’s OTF machines over the last few months, it looks like embellishment and special effects are going to be key in the decision making process in 2018.’
