Westhoughton High School students in Year 10 design classes entered the national competition to showcase their skills. Each of the 40 students selected a design brief that allowed them to research and design a specific graphic arts related problem.
Students at the Bolton school, Brandon Roughley, Izzy Dzulkifli and Anna Cookson also received an Achievement Award for their design solutions. Anna and Brandon selected the sports brief, whilst Izzy the gaming brief. All three students used a range of skills from analysis to sketching and CAD to produce their final work.
Izzy commented, ‘I enjoyed coming up with the concept and developing it into something better and more well thought out over time. I was very pleased with the prize as it has allowed me to explore photography as a hobby.’
Anna stated, ‘The whole competition was really enjoyable and winning has boosted my confidence.’
Alison Turner, Westhoughton High’s leader of Learning Design Technology, added: ‘We were delighted that our students achieved such recognition. The judges felt that there was an enormous amount of hard work put in by our students that led to them producing some really fantastic final designs.’
Renz allowed the school to choose the best machine for its needs. The school chose the robust, simple to use Renz HT330P pouch laminating machine complete with a user friendly control panel. Paul Simpson, sales manager, Renz UK, commented: ‘We are pleased to support the next generation of creatives and are proud to be part of an initiative that celebrates the power of print.’
